Euonymus alatus, Winged Euonymus



Size: shrub, 15' average height and spread at maturity

Buds: imbricate, small, conical, 4-6 pairs of scales

Leaves: deciduous, opposite or subopposite, 1-3" long, .5-1.25" wide, simple, elliptic to obovate, acute tips, finely sharp serrate, medium or dark green, usually a brilliant red in fall

Twigs: conspicuous corky wings, interrupted at nodes, actual stem is often green

Flowers: monoecious, groups of 3 yellow-green .25" flowers, bloom May to early June

Fruit: lobed red capsule, up to .33", containing an orange-red seed
