Prunus maackii, Manchurian Chokecherry



Size: tree, 30-45' average height at maturity, 25-35' spread

Buds: imbricate, appressed, brown, lenticels present

Leaves: deciduous, alternate, 2-4" long, simple, elliptic to oblong-ovate, acuminate tip, finely serrate, green in spring and summer, yellow-green in fall

Twigs: slender, current year growth shiny brown with some waxy gray patches

Flowers: perfect, white, 20-30 per 2-3" long raceme, bloom in mid to late spring

Fruit: red drupe matures to black in fall

Bark: glossy amber to coppery orange to reddish brown, younger trees may have shaggy exfoliation
