Size: vine, 30-50' average span at maturity

Buds: brownish, may be present or absent above leaf scars

Leaves: deciduous, alternate, 4-8" wide, simple, 3 lobes, each lobe coarsely serrate, acuminate, shiny dark green changes to various oranges, reds, scarlets, and burgundies in fall

Twigs: climbs with tendrils, circular discs at tips, usually less than 2", raised semicircular leaf scars, squarish stems

Flowers: monoecious, small (.125") yellow-green flowers in terminal clusters

Fruit: dark blue berries, .25-.33"

Bark: brownish, sometimes with a shredded look from the remains of aerial rootlets
