Rhododendron yakushimanum, Yakushima Rhododendron



Size: small, dense shrub, 4-8" average height at maturity

Buds: large 1", scaly and pointed

Leaves: evergreen, simple, leathery, 3" long, 1-2" wide, lustrous dark green above, light gray-brown wooly pubescence beneath, elliptic to oblong

Twigs: new growth is yellowish and fleshy, becoming woody and brown with age

Flowers: bright rose buds open to large clusters of white flowers
