Leaves: deciduous, alternate, 2-4" long, .33-.6" wide, simple, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, serrate, bright green above, glabrous and glaucous below

Twigs: leaf scars light-colored, contrast with glossy green or brownish color of twigs, glabrous, prominent lenticels, twisted and contorted

Flowers: dioecious tree, female clone

Fruit: capsule, seeds covered with downy fuzz

Bark: yellow or olive-green when young
