Leaves: deciduous, semievergreen, opposite, 1-3" long, .375-.625' wide, simple, oblong-lanceolate, flat deep green
Twigs: leaf scars connected by stipular line, pith white, grayish
Flowers: monoecious, .5-.75' white flowers in clusters up to 3" long, bloom in May
Fruit: smell brown capsule
Bark: grayish
