Ribes alpinum, Alpine Currant



Size: shrub, 3-6' average height at maturity, 3-8' spread

Buds: More or less fusiform, prominent, light color

Leaves: deciduous, alternate, 1-2" long and wide, simple, roundish to ovate, 3 or 5 lobes, each one dentate, deep bright green in summer, yellow in fall

Twigs: glabrous, light to chesnut brown, conspicuous decurrent line on each side of leaf scar, brown band beneath leaf scar

Flowers: dioecious, greenish yellow, males in 2" clusters, females in 1" clusters, bloom in April

Fruit: juicy scarlet berry, up to .33"

Bark: may exfoliate on old stems
