Size: tree, 20-30' average height at maturity

Buds: reddish, 1 or 2, globular, at base of thorn, may be stalked or unstalked

Leaves: deciduous, alternate, 1-3" long, .75-2.25" wide, simple, broad ovate to triangular ovate, 3-5 lobes, sharply serrate, acute tips, shiny dark green, lustrous below, orange, scarlet, or purple in fall

Twigs: often nearly straight, upright spreading branches

Flowers: monoecious, white, .5" wide, pink anthers, in clusters, bloom in early June

Fruit: glossy orange-red .25" pome, lasts all winter
