Buds: terminal grayish, ovoid to fusiform, several imbricate scales

Leaves:  deciduous, alternate, 1.5-5" long, 1-3.5" wide, simple, elliptic to obovate, acuminate tis, serrulate margins, dark green above, gray-green below, can be burgundy-purple in fall

Twigs: slender, grayish, often glaucus

Flowers: monoecious, each .33-.4" wide, 3-6" clusters, bloom in late April or May

Fruit: red ripening to dark purple, edible, .33"
