Leaves: deciduous, alternate, 5-1" long, simple, obovate, margins entire, tips usually obtuse but sometimes acute, bright green on top, fall color includes orange, scarlet, red-purple
Twigs: dark brown, ridged, innter bark bright yellow, solitary thorns
Flowers: monoecious, yellow
Fruit: .33" bright red elliptical berry, persisting into winter
Bark: angled or grooved, red-brown
