Leaves: deciduous, opposite, 2-4.5 long, .75-1.5" wide, simple, elliptic to long ovate or obovate, acuminate tips, serrate margins, medium green
Twigs: pubescent decurrent lines between leaf scars running from node to node, gray-brown, large circular lenticles
Flowers: monoecious, 1-2" trumpet-shaped flowers with rounded lobes, bloom in May or June, many colors including pinks, whites, reds, and yellows
Fruit: capsule splitting into 2-3 valves
